Important changes to Scottish Child Payment

Scottish Child Payment will increase to £25 per week and become available for children aged 6 to 15, on 14 November 2022.  

You need to apply for this benefit and payment is made every 4 weeks if your application is successful. 

You can apply whether you’re in work or not, as long as you’re getting one or more of the following benefits:

  • Universal Credit 
  • Child Tax Credit 
  • Income Support 
  • Pension Credit 
  • Working Tax Credit 
  • Income-based Jobseekers Allowance (JSA) 
  • Income-related Employment Support Allowance (ESA)

Applications are processed by Social Security Scotland and can be made online or by calling their Freephone number 0800 182 2222.  

Applications for children 6 – 15 years can only be made from 14th November. If you apply before this date, you’ll only get Scottish Child Payment for children under 6, and you will need to apply again for any children over 6.
