Community Resource Centre Receive Big Lottery Grant

Whitlawburn Community Resource Centre are delighted to receive a grant for £499,472. The grant was part of the Lottery Our Place programme which was established to support local people to identify priorities for their area.

The grant will be used to to carry out roof works and cladding and timber repairs and general improvement of the interior of the building. The centre will also employ a development worker and community engagement worker.

Helen Anderson, chairperson of Whitlawburn Community Resource Centre, said: “This is a fantastic outcome for the resource centre and the local community. The successful funding award has been as a result of a lot of hard work over the last 12 months and is the start of exciting times.”

A spokesman for the centre added: “An improved, wind and watertight facility will be of benefit to all who access the centre. The revenue funding will allow for recruitment to help support those who use the centre and those who wish to try something new.”

Big Lottery Fund Scotland chair Maureen McGinn said: “I am delighted that Whitlawburn Community Resource Centre has been successful in securing a Big Lottery Fund grant.

“The funding will make a big difference where it is needed most and I wish the Whitlawburn Community Resource Centre every success as it goes on to develop and expand its project for the benefit of their local community.”

The centre provides a range of services including financial inclusion support, an IT Hub, a household recycling project and food co-operative. There are also a range of groups that access the centre including a local foodbank, parent and youth groups, exercise classes and football classes.
